Book Club

Starts: 10:00 am

Ends: 12:00 pm,December 17, 2017

Location: 2935 Birch Hollow Dr, Ann Arbor, MI 48108, USA

Description: The Jewish Cultural Society Book Group invites JCS members to join us next on Sunday December 17, 2017 from 10:00 am until noon at the Jewish Community Center to discuss Meta Maus by Art Spigelman. Several of us attended the Penny Stamps lecture by Art Spigelman on November 9th and found him fascinating as he enlightened us with stories of how and why he wrote Maus I and Maus II. He actually thought that creating Meta Maus would give him closure on Maus interviews, but not so; people are intrigued more than ever about the research and interviews he conducted to accurately portray his parents’ experience and survival of the Holocaust in his signature graphic novel format.

Sunday School

Starts: 10:00 am

Ends: 12:00 pm,December 17, 2017

Location: 2935 Birch Hollow Drive, Ann Arbor, MI 48108

Description: The JCS Sunday School always welcomes new students -- from pre-kindergarteners through seventh graders. The students develop an appreciation of their Jewish heritage through interesting, fun, and hands-on learning in multi-aged classes. The final two years are a particularly meaningful B’nai Mitzvah program, during which the students select and do their own research on Jewish topics, including their own family history and Jewish identity. In keeping with the Secular Humanistic Jewish emphasis on social justice, each student makes a commitment to a community service project.
