High Holidays

Rosh Hashanah

Our Rosh Hashanah eve observance is an extremely well attended event... Reservations are required.

Kol Nidre

Kol Nidre is a very meaningful and solemn event, including music and readings
There are always many opportunities for tzedakah provided. Reservations requested.

Yom Kippur

A very intimate midday observance. This is the only time you will see two or more JCS members together in a room with no food in sight. Reservations requested.

Chanukah

What could Chanukah be without loads of lovely latkes? We celebrate Chanukah with a party, hosted by the school parents, who provide us with those latkes, as well as other goodies. There are many activities for the children to do. The morning culminates with the Bar and Bat Mitzvah students providing us with a wonderful candlelighting ceremony, and our favorite storyteller plying us with a wonderful tale.

Tu B'shvat

The New Year of the Trees provides us with a reason for another school-based party, which is organized somewhat like a fair. Activities focusing on cultural and ecological issues are set up in the classrooms. Among other things, students plant parsley for Pesach, sample various tree fruits, and often view "The Lorax."

Purim

We'll admit it. We get a little silly at Purim. This party is hosted by school parents as well. We always have hamentaschen. And we always have a Sponge Toss game, with Hamen as the target. Our Society director, as well as some of our graduates, love to take turns playing Hamen and egging the sponge tossers on.

There is usually pizza, face painting, and a costume parade. There is always a lot of laughing.

Pesach

Our Second Seder is a community-wide event featuring a progressive secular haggadah and a potluck vegetarian meal. Reservations are required.
