We are excited about our program for teenagers called the “Tzofim Community Leadership Program” (TCLP).  Tzofim have the unique opportunity to broaden their participation with JCS and to work together to help the Greater Ann Arbor Community.  Tzofim develop their skills as socially responsible Jewish leaders.  This program is designed specifically for high school students. Students can also get credit for community service hours with active participation in the TCLP.

The TCLP meets during regular JCS Sunday School hours and offer Tzofim many different leadership opportunities ranging from service to the Sunday School (as a classroom or office aide) to leading a community-wide project that will help the larger community.

The program is led by a Team Facilitator, in collaboration with our Principal, and guidance from Julie Gales, our Madrikha.  Sessions take a team approach with experiential learning about how to be an effective community leader and organizer.  This includes conceptualizing a project and seeing it through, all the way to its implementation and evaluation.  Participants draw on the core values they have already learned at JCS and develop their practical leadership skills and understanding in the areas of:

  • Communication Style
  • Brainstorming
  • Goal Setting
  • Community Organizing
  • Project Planning
  • Implementation Strategies
  • Fundraising
  • Evaluation

The TCLP is a student driven program, but parents are encouraged to help the Tzofim in any way they can so that their efforts will have the best possible outcomes.  This includes (but is not limited to):

  1. Support and encourage students to attend and participate regularly.
  2. Reinforce the importance of placing a priority on community service for JCS and the larger community.
  3. Provide rides, community connections and other resources requested by Tzofim in order to support their efforts.
