The goal of the JCS Sunday School is to expose our students to the vast scope of Jewish life over 4000 years on six continents and to engender in them an appreciation for Jewish history, culture and ethics. Learning is participatory and active. Students dance, sing, create art, cook, and hear and tell stories. We hope to encourage a lifelong fascination with, and love for, our Jewish heritage. Many of our students come from homes of mixed cultural backgrounds.
Classes take place at the Jewish Community Center from 10:00am until noon, most Sundays during the regular school year (September through May).
Teachers and Tzofim
Each K- 7 classroom teacher will have a Tzofeh or Tzofah (teen aide), to assist with projects, small group learning, and snacks. Grade 8 will have Tzofim as needed.
JCS Tzofim (Teen) Community Leadership Program (TCLP)
All high school students are invited to participate in our leadership development program.
School Wide Events
School-wide holiday events are celebrated for Sukkot, Hannukah, Tu B’shevat, and Purim.
Tzedakah and Social Action
Each class will collect Tzedakah weekly, and the class will decide to which charity they wish to donate at the end of the year. In addition, every class will be participating in a special social action activity designed for their age group.
Music will take place twice a month. Dance will take place 1-2 times per month. Music will be a part of most family holiday celebrations.
We have a “Check it Out!” program through which students visit the “Library Corner” with their classes to check out a book. Check out will be for one week, from Sunday to Sunday.
Parents will be emailed with notification of class activities and special announcements..
